Fall Theme Gifts

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Made our daughter-in -law some gifts for her Fall birthday! Doing my own thing no pattern. Strip pieced and quilted bench pillow with some Fall applique.
I am working on one for me now!
Alice cane over on Thursday for sew day and we started on ours together.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Also made these towels to go with her pillow. Happy to say she liked them! I do love sewing things in season. Seems to make it more enjoyable for me.
Time to get in gear for sewing up some Christmas gifts as well!!
Need to make up my list!

We have a truly Fall weekend upon us. Temps are cool and leaves are falling. Sunshine but very windy. Our maples have not colored up yet but along the wood line edge of cotton field are some pretty tree colors.

Soup, stew and chili season!! Also baked goods!
DH baked some Cranberry Bread and so delish with roasted turkey and provolone cheese grill toasted!
Will have to be careful or will gain back all the pounds I have lost!!

Wishing all a wonderful weekend no matter where you are located!!
Take care and enjoy!

Happy Fall Friday!

Well we survived hurricane Matthew. Our area had loads of rain and wind. High tide brought lots of flooding of major bridges and roadways. most were closed a good while. the two out by us finally cleared up by Wednesday. Had lots of power lines out and trees down. We were without power for close to 24 hours which is a lot better than some folks had to deal with and in NC and SC still folks without power.

Our damage was by wind then heavy rain. The winds blew our crawlspace door off then huge amount of rain blew in under our house! So had to be pumped out and still have to have fans and heat lamps going. We had loads of limbs to get up but thankfully nothing fell on our house or the vehicles.
Lots of flooding around us, though most has receded.
Yes we had a lot to deal with here in coastal Virginia but not nearly as bad as folks south of us in coastal NC and SC. So I still keep them in thought and prayers.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
I think I am caught up now with laundry and cleaning!
Pulled out the Fall decor and finished putting that out. Looks so pretty. Still not finished the new runners! Hope to work on them this coming week.  Here are a couple older ones on the blanket chest.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/

Been sewing on birthday gifts for our DIL.Will share after they are given! ;-)
Son, DIL and Olivia will be here Sunday to celebrate with us belatedly!!
Can't wait to give Olivia hugs and kisses. Been a bit since we have seen her and she is growing like a weed!!!

We are enjoying some Fall like days here finally.
Cooler temps and beautiful blue skies.
Lots of fun Fall Festivals happening most weekends.
Not sure how many we will be able to attend but do hope we can get out and enjoy the season!
Sometimes it seems like we go from Summer to Winter with no Fall!! So want to make the most of it this year!!

Bye Summer Hello Fall

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Pulling out some Fall themed quilts and such. Getting the house in the Fall mood! So happy to have some cooler temps. Here in the big Pumpkin Quilt hanging on dining room wall.  Adding more decor to the table and buffet.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Have a few Halloween things I put up. Not many but enough for kids to enjoy. This Ghosts one I made many moons ago thinking it may have been Art to Heart but not sure.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Here are the Jacks on the hearth! Olivia will love them I bet. So bright and funny.

Still working on the new Fall table runners and some birthday sewing. I had to stop to get prepared for hurricane but now we are not going to be in the line. Just 100% rain for Saturday and Sunday.
Still better to be safe than sorry so we are stocked up and ready for the next storm be it a hurricane or Nor'easter! We have had drizzle rain every day this week not related to hurricane. Ready for some sun soon!

Well best get back to work!
Sending thoughts and prayers for all those in the path way of Matthew.

Fall Pumpkin Time

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
I used a layer cake called Saltbox Harvest by Kate Strain I was given as a birthday gift a couple years ago.
Saw this block on a video and seemed simple to do. I have two runners pieced.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
This is the smaller runner. I am adding some pumpkin applique to the sides.  Have a different plan for the longer one for my dining room table. Hope it goes to plan!;-)
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Here is Big Boots kitty inspecting my seams up close!! We hope he has stopped growing he is 16 pounds and very tall!
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
So DH caught the pumpkin bug and made this last week. Was yummy!!!

Have had so much going on here have not got all my Fall decor pulled out and up yet.
Hope to do before weekend!!! Also have some secret sewing to finish up this week as well!
I am hoping to get in the sewing room in next few days!!

July Sewing

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
My pal Deb had a birthday on Aug 2nd. So I set to work in july making her gift.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Did the fast table runner. She is into owls these days and bright colors so when I saw this fabric it screamed her name!
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Made a couple place mats to match for her and hubby to use. She was tickled with them so I am happy.
My DH baked her favorite cake so she was a very happy gal indeed. When we left she was getting into that cake! ;-)

Savanna Overnight Bag

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Made this for our granddaughter to use for her sleep overs at her pals.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
It is roomy and has a tie closure so she can use for bigger items out the top.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
It is a reall fun  looking bag with lots of color. Pics do not show it as well.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Room inside for whatever she needs to pack.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
This to me was such acute girly fabric.  She loved her new bag but did not get a pic when they were down here Labor Day!!! We had a family cook out and enjoyed a good time with our kids.

Here is our cutie being silly. :-)

Some Summer Sewing

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
One of my Summer sewing projects was this runner and had on the table for Summer.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
These blocks were a very old UFO in my closet! I had received  some log cabin blocks in a long ago swap.  They needed some work to be able to use. So I put them aside for another day! Well the day finally arrived  I un-sewed and re-sewed and was able to use enough of them for this runner.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Worked well for the summer place settings!

I am working on a new Fall runner now. Hard to think it is almost October already!!!

We finally got some much needed rain out here.
Other towns in our area are having flooding issues.
We have been very hot so hope we can cool off a bit now also.

Pillow Pallet

So another new to me project! Pillow pallet!
I went with what I thought was the simple version.
Made up pillow cases to sew together.
Found this fabric in my stash that looked girly girl!
The pillows we had bought were standard or so they said.
Sadly my cases were a bit large!
I did not want to take all apart so just took them up on sides and in the sew together seam.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Used velcro to close openings.
Did not get a done pic here before delivery to the little one to use it!

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Here she is relaxing on it while her Daddy naps .
It is four pillows long. So the one pillow can tuck under for head support.
Also can be folded up for a comfy chair!
May have to make a few more for some other little cuties!
I am going to try making one using sham technique next I think...;-)

Sewing PUL Waterproof Fabric

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
This was a first for me. Never worked with this type of fabric. I bought mine at Joann's Fabrics.
It is used to sew baby diapers and such .
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Had some cute prints! I used a small needle and my walking foot. I did put my Sew Slip on the machine extension table. Kept from sliding.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
These are large toddler bibs with a catch all pocket.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
I used a soft flannel on the back that I pre-washed.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
They came out cute! Used Velcro for neck closure.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
These were for this now 2 year old cutie!

We are having a new roof put on this weekend so will not have TV or internet. The satellite dishes are roof mounts. So off they go!
I will try to stay inside out of the way and work on sewing!!!

Better Days....

I am beginning to wonder when they will arrive...those better days!
Been some tough going months here and we are not out of the woods yet!
My DH is having some serious health issues that begin with kidney failure.
Now we are dealing with more issues that were the cause of the kidney failure and other problems.
We are trying to do the one day at a time plan and keep our thoughts positive.

My sewing has been hit or miss but did a few projects.
This is a runner I made for our DIL's parents to celebrate their 50th golden wedding anniversary .
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Did mean to get a better pic  and one of them with it but did not happen!
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Used two of the single wedding ring blocks.
The blocks came out close to 15 inches. Would make a lovely large quilt for a bride.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Found this wonderful golden color floral fabric for the border.  The ring in the block made from a pretty over dyed golden fabric.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Best pic I could get of some of the quilting. Did rings and hearts in the blocks.
Rest was straight line channel quilting around blocks and in borders.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
So proud I did remember to label it too!
Was very pretty and happy to say was happily accepted!

Big Four Patch Blocks

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
I used a French General layer cake for this project. Forget which line.
Sewed up four squares into a big four patch. trying to keep a light dark opposite design in play.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Then measuring out three inches from center seam I made my four whacks!
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Mixed up all the pieces so blocks are not the same.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Still trying to keep the darks and lights in different areas.
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Finished block. I trimmed mine up to 17.5 inches.
I seem yo have issues sewing up the precuts perfectly! That wee zig zag edge gets me every time!
http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
Still a very good size when laid all out.

http://ansewon.blogspot.com/
My plan to add a 6 inch border in a pretty matching fabric with the dark red for binding.
Toile as backing if I have enough in my stash.

I just did these as I felt like sewing but I think this could be a one day top.
Would like to think this is my own idea but I am sure there is some one out there that has done it already.
Was thinking the same could be done with a 9 patch setting and cutting out your own 10 inch squares!
I have a lot of stash to use up and like the fast and easy at this point!
